About Leonie
Leonie Caron practices the art of Ipu Pawehe, which is a uniquely Hawaiian method of decorated gourds. Since 2012, she has made her home near the scenic coastline of the Kaʻū district on Hawaii Island, following her retirement from a long career as a systems analyst. Even before that she had a long time love for Hawaiian culture, including dancing hula, studying ‘olelo and weaving lauhala.
Now, as a full-time artist, she is dedicated to perfecting her passion for Ipu, studying with teachers and networking with others. She favors using Hawaiian subject matter in her art, but also likes to mix it up with whimsical ideas. Leonie’s work is featured at the Ipu Arts Gallery in Holualoa.
